Natalya’s interview ( in Russian) with her art coach and mentor, Dasha Pogodina: “How to Be Successful on the Art Market?”

Learn more about this interview which highlights the transformative impact of mentorship in the art world, emphasizing the balance between authenticity, strategic market awareness, and the integration of tradition and innovation for artistic success

In this insightful interview, the dialogue between Natalya, the artist, and Dasha Pogodina, her art coach, delves into essential themes surrounding success in the art market. Natalya shares her journey of selecting Dasha as her art coach, highlighting the profound impact Dasha had not only in terms of artistic guidance but also as a supportive figure in her artistic psyche. Under Dasha’s mentorship, Natalya found clarity and answers to her pressing questions, allowing her to navigate the complexities of being an artist.

Dasha’s program comprised nine comprehensive lessons or blocks that covered a wide range of topics, from artistic techniques to psychological aspects of being an artist. One key focus was on overcoming imposter syndrome, particularly for those without a traditional or renowned background in the art world. Dasha shared her insights on building confidence and finding one’s unique voice in a competitive environment.

Additionally, she emphasized the importance of working with references and materials, providing practical strategies to effectively gather inspiration and resources. This approach is particularly beneficial for artists creating a series of works centered around a common theme. By encouraging participants to explore various references and materials, Dasha aimed to foster creativity and innovation, allowing artists to deepen their exploration of their chosen topics and enhance their artistic practice. Overall, the program was designed to empower artists at all levels to navigate both the technical and emotional challenges of their craft.

Dasha emphasizes that a successful artist must wear many hats, combining talent and hard work with a keen awareness of the art industry’s dynamics and current trends. Natalya acknowledges that modern artists must balance their unique vision with a strategic approach to market integration, ensuring their work resonates within the contemporary landscape.

A key takeaway from their conversation is the importance of authenticity. Dasha encourages artists to remain true to their values, beliefs, and concerns, fostering a genuine connection with their audience. This authenticity is essential for developing a distinctive artistic voice.

Natalya learned from Dasha’s program that achieving success in the art world requires a blend of confidence, authenticity, and a strategic approach to market dynamics, enabling her to navigate both the emotional and technical challenges of her artistic practice. Additionally, the concept of “Metamodernism” inspired her to synthesize tradition and innovation in her work, fostering a distinctive voice that resonates within contemporary artistic dialogues. As a result, Natalya’s work not only reflects her individual style but also engages with broader artistic dialogues, positioning her effectively within the contemporary art scene.
